Step into The Annexe Cafe, a delightful haven nestled on the first floor of Whitcoulls at 226 Lambton Quay in Wellington. This inviting café boasts a prime location that not only serves quality food but also offers a scenic view of the bustling Lambton Quay, ideal for those who enjoy people-watching while sipping on their favorite beverages.

The moment you enter The Annexe Cafe, you are greeted by a warm atmosphere, enhanced by the nostalgic tunes of the 90s and early 2000s playing softly in the background. The spacious setting, tucked away in a bookstore's children's section, allows for a relaxed dining experience, perfect for catching up with friends or spending a quiet moment alone with a good book.

The café delights patrons with a diverse menu focusing on all-day breakfast, featuring standout dishes that are both comforting and flavorful. Imagine indulging in the Eggs Benedict ($22), which combines perfectly poached free-range eggs atop sourdough, crowned with rich hollandaise and crispy streaky bacon. If you're in the mood for something lighter yet equally satisfying, the Smashed Avocado with Egg ($23) offers a zesty avocado smash complemented by fresh cherry tomatoes and feta, finished off beautifully with a poached egg. For those who crave heartier fare, the Hash Stack ($24.50) will leave you delighted with its layered goodness of hash brown, baby spinach, streaky bacon, poached egg, and a drizzle of hollandaise.

But don't just take our word for it. Customers rave about their experiences at The Annexe Cafe. Nicole highlights the freshness of the side salad served with toasties and paninis, perfectly enhancing the cheesy goodness of those delightful sandwiches. Elroy Okada praises the generous food portions and mentions how friendly and professional the staff are, making every visit a pleasure. Tommy Lamont echoes this sentiment, noting the café’s welcoming vibe and how the staff remember regulars, further enriching the experience. And for those seeking flavors beyond breakfast, Lithika Ravichandran recommends the generously portioned fries with bacon and declares their cheese scones the best around!

If you're in Wellington, don't miss the opportunity to unwind at The Annexe Cafe. With its delicious menu, welcoming staff, and the perfect ambiance for relaxation, it’s not just a café; it's a community hub where great food meets friendly faces.

The side salad for the toasted sandwiches and paninis is an absolute banger. It's so fresh and compliments the cheesiness of the toasties. Also the location is great with a good view of lambton for people watching and the staff is lovely.

Friendly service, good variety of food, outstanding coffee and chocolate beverages, and best of all open on New year's Eve! The only thing we struggled with was the absence of a Tobasco (first cafe we've been to that doesn't have some form of hot sauce) and the presentation of the eggs Benedict was in such a way that made it extremely difficult to cut into and eat with cutlery (the knife wouldn't go through the extra crispy bacon and soggy sourdough bread). Some additional thought may be required here to improve this from a technical perspective (perhaps just need sharper knifes?) but flavour wise we enjoyed our food very much.

A cafe in Whitcoulls Great atmosphere with good views overlooking Main Street Lambton quay. Playing favourite jams from 90’s and early 2000’s. The food portion is generous and reasonably priced. Friendly and professional staff.

The food here is great but the staff are so kind, i come here often as me and a friend are planning a trip together and we can get free wifi and it’s so lovely that the staff remembers us, they’re super approachable and great to have a chat with as well :)

A group of 3 visited the cafe yesterday & were pleasantly surprised with the amount of tables available after going to a couple of other cafes with limited seating. The food options are well priced including cabinet food. Good coffee, quick & friendly service made our catch-up very enjoyable. We finished up but didnt daly for too long as the noon crowd were coming in making tables hot real estate. A great venue.
